Animé enthusiasts, film buffs and gamers do not have to go out of Cebu City anymore to get a degree in animation. This June, UC will be the first in the Visayas to offer BS Information Technology, Major in Animation.

What started as Chancellor Candice Gotianuy's avid interest is now a reality, pushing UC at the forefront of Information Technology in the region.

Following a ladderized curriculum, students have several options. They can take the modules on 2D and 3D animation software, then either proceed to a two-year associate degree, or a four-year BSIT-Animation degree.

Beginning January 2009, the recently formed Animation Department engaged 3D Animation practitioner, Mr. Mamerto Escaño as Animation Head. He will collaborate with IT Deans from the Main, Banilad and LM campuses to develop the study programs for the modular, 2-year TESDA-compliant and 4-year Animation courses. Two faculty members from each of the 3 campuses will undergo training. Mr. Escaño will be working side by side with Dr. Maris delos Santos who is designated as IT HUB Head. She handles every modular program that will be offered and is the main link to TESDA.

International Affairs Director Ms. Tiffany Tan invited three representatives from the Department of Visual Information Design of Daejin University, Korea to conduct a two-month 2D animation training for the instructors and tri-weekly seminars to IT students.

To complete the picture, the Chancellor has invited the Animation Council of the Phils., Inc. (ACPI) for them to lend their expertise on animation curriculum design and to hold a forum on the latest trends in animation. The ACPI will be instrumental in the assimilation of graduates into the very promising animation industry.
