Cebu Coliseum Oficially Reopens With Modern Facilities

Cebu’s sports legend since 1962, the Cebu Coliseum, officially opened its doors anew on September 6, 2025, with a blessing and inauguration ceremony, unveiling a ₱100 million facelift that restored Cebu’s most iconic sports arena to world-class standard.

The five-month upgrade introduced a fully air-conditioned interior, a Canadian-made FIBA-standard maple basketball court, cushioned seating, a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, and a four-sided LED Jumbotron. Its redesigned roof, built with heat-reducing materials, enhances comfort for athletes and spectators alike.

The ceremony was led by UC Chairman Atty. Augusto W. Go, with Architect Maxwell Espina and Mrs. Elizabeth Go. Also present were UC administrators, regional DepEd and CHED directors, CESAFI officials, partners, and former PBA legend Dondon Hontiveros.

The event also featured a ceremonial shot by Hontiveros led the inauguration, marking the coliseum’s preparedness to host first-class competitions anew.

Now with its upgraded facilities, the coliseum is bidding for national championships, including the return of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) to Cebu.
