(March 11, 2020) Two students from the University of Cebu Banilad- Junior Science High School won 2nd place in the Modified Line Following Robot of the CESAFI Robotics Competition 2020 held last March 11, 2020 at CIT-U.
Khugo Sebastian Auditor and Miguel Alejando Lloveras, grade 7 students of the UC-Banilad Junior Science High School, competed with other teams from CESAFI member schools. It was a tough turf for the lads since it was their first Robotics competition. With their cooperation and diligence, they were able make it to 2nd place in the Modified Line Following Robot event. Both students proved that teamwork really does make the dream work.
According to the team’s coach and JSHS’s TLE and Robotics teacher, Engr. Christian Miro, they had around two weeks to assemble and program the robot using Arduino Uno, a microcontroller board. The event the team participated in required them to build a robot that would follow a specified line or path using an Infrared (IR) Sensor. It wasn’t easy for them since they have to adjust the sensor’s sensitivity and the motor’s mobility all at the same time.
“The other participants have bots that are better in design,” Auditor told a JSHS journalism correspondent. However, he added, “I think (we won) since we programmed our bot better than them.”
The same team also won 3rd place in the Balloon Bot event in the Cebu STEaM Cup 2019 held last November 10, 2019.
