University of Cebu celebrates stories of intercultural competence and internationalization through FRIENDS Digital Storytelling Contest

Marked by stories of friendships, intercultural competence, and internationalization, the University of Cebu – Banilad through the Erasmus+ FRIENDS Project once again gave its students the opportunity to impact the community through a Digital Storytelling Contest.

In the FRIENDS project, the digital storytelling contest serves as one of the means to integrate intercultural awareness and cultural diversity (IACD) sensitivity programme on the campus. Digital storytelling is a way of sharing students’ IACD stories publicly through various multimedia and channels. As such, it aims to raise awareness on the higher education internationalization agenda across the project’s consortium. FRIENDS stands for Furthering International Relations Capacities and Intercultural Engagement to Nurture Campus Diversity and to Support Internationalization at Home.

The Digital Storytelling contest started last March 29, 2022. Participants who wish to participate need to meet the university’s qualifications and submit an original video following the mechanics of the FRIENDS Digital Storytelling Manual.

There were ten participants who applied for the contest. Among the ten, four students stood out namely: Jean Russelle May Torreon, Gwen Badlon, Earl Marie Regulacion, and Christine Isabelle Rudolph. The winners’ digital stories were carefully evaluated by the selected judges. The judges were Mr. Francis Jose Lean L. Abayata, Miss Maria Isabel A. Guillen, Miss Kara Kristine Pino-Tao, and Mr. Cydar Alexis Oraiz. The eligible digital stories were evaluated according to the FRIENDS Official Evaluation Rubric for Official Judging.

The University of Cebu congratulates all the participants for their diligent work in sharing their stories of intercultural competence and internationalization.
