The University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) triumphed at the much-awaited culinary competition in Visayas, Cebu Goes Culinary 2023, where professional chefs and culinary talents from all over the region gathered to showcase their skills and expertise in Filipino cuisine—transforming the venue into kitchen battlegrounds last September 30 and October 1, 2023, at the SM Seaside Skyhall.
The event underscored the theme “Malakas at Maganda: The Surge of Philippine Cuisine,” highlighting the country’s rich culinary heritage, use of local ingredients, and traditional cooking techniques.
The College of Hospitality and Tourism Management students from the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue, with the support of their esteemed faculty, showcased exceptional culinary skills and techniques, earning them a series of prestigious awards.
Kenneth Jethro Gamali won the Highest award-silver medal for the cocktail mixing category. Jamiebeth Cortes, Nimai Priya Berbesada, and Harry Rosalejos also bagged the highest award silver medals for their creative cake-making skills. Sophia D. Monleon and Glorevin S. Nave also bagged the highest award- silver medals for traditional and modern pusó making.
Nestor Gadiana Jr., Adrian Lhor Gaquing, and Sofia Mendheart Jumamoy also earned silver medals for table setting. Crystal Jane Inoc won a bronze medal for mocktail mixing. Bliss A. Dela Cerna and Dave D. Capul got a diploma award for torta making. Joyce Jeitiny A. Flaviano and Deacon Nicoledge T. Masbang received a diploma for their Vinegar recipe. Lastly, Nicole M. Anub and Mark Laurence S. Baguio were recognized for their bagoong recipe with a diploma.
The accomplishment of UCLM in this year’s Cebu Goes Culinary competition is not only a testament to the institution’s commitment to culinary excellence but also brings honor to the institution, sheds light on the thriving culinary scene in Cebu, and a nod to Philippine culture.
